Supply List: Light Box, Ultra Fine Marking Pen (such as Sharpie brand felt
pen), Scissors, Ironing Pad, Iron, Iron on Fuseable Web (such as Heat N
Bond Lite), Prewashed Cotton Fabrics.
Before you begin working on your horse design lets go over a few of
the basics for raw edge fusible applique.  You must always trace the
reverse pieces or your picture will come out backwards.  Do not cut any
part of the paper pattern it is not necessary.  You will have a layout
pattern and then a pattern of the reversed pattern pieces for each
design.
STEP 1  Begin by tracing all of the pattern pieces onto the paper side of
iron on fusible web.  I like to use Heat 'n Bond Lite.  Be sure that you
are tracing the reversed pieces.  Also be sure to label each pattern piece
carefully.
STEP 2  Cut the pieces out of the fusible web leaving a little margin
around each piece.
STEP 3  Sort the pieces by color.
STEP 4  Iron the pieces to the wrong side of the corresponding fabrics.
STEP 5  Carefully cut out each piece.
STEP 6  Place the layout pattern on the light box and place your
background fabric over the layout in the position you want it in the
finished picture.
STEP 7  Starting with piece number one carefully peel the paper off
the back side and iron it in place.  Followed by pieces 2,3 etc.
STEP 8  Machine applique the pieces using either monofilament of a
matching thread.
STEP 9  You can now sandwich your picture and quilt as desires or do
more pictures and make a bed sized quilt.
Here's a picture of my homemade light box.
The light box is made of an old picture frame with some braces under it
to hold it up at an angle.  I also put some support pieces in to keep the
glass from falling out.  I can easily slip my small tracing light
underneath.
